Introduction
Comfort is a relative notion, yet it becomes essential when waiting in the rain or in the cold.
At a time when everyone praises the virtues of public transport, one of the essential missions of public space is to provide attractive waiting conditions: safety, comfort, protection from the weather, clear information, regular maintenance. None of this is obvious, considering how long these expectations were overlooked, even though they have become a strong collective demand. This series does not aim to offer a treatise on bus or tram shelters, but rather a small kaleidoscope — across regions and countries — of the many ways our societies respond, or fail to respond, to this ordinary yet revealing moment: waiting.
