Endangered species

Urban furniture also ages and dies, often after a long agony – or a new youth, according to the case.

Telephone booths are no exception. Daughters of times where fixed lines were scarce, when locally elected were ready to do anything to get these terminals offering basic communication services. They are almost everywhere progressively supplanted by modern competitors.

Some – among the most fashionable – resist and still offer their services to locals and to tourists, some only have left their decrepit shell, unless advertisement for some time save their skin. Other have undergone some rehabilitation, if as a local internet terminal, if as a shelter against rain, if as street libraries. I am waiting to see how far imagination will reach.
